Red Shift From Black Hole

No photons come out from Rs - 1. Those that start just outside appear red shifted to a distant observer (not strongly affected by the gravity of the black hole). The effect is the result of time dilation in the vicinity of the black hole. One other effect is that to a distant observer, stars collapsing to form a black hole never seem to get there, to an outside observer.

I will have to confess, I am not particularly expert in this area, so I can't get much further into details. I suggest Kip Thorne's "Black Holes and Time Warps".
