One of the ways astronomers have proved that the universe is expanding faster than ever is by showing that galaxies further away are moving faster than closer ones (I think). But if these galaxies are further away, then wouldn't they have been moving that fast a much longer time ago? Wouldn't that instead show that the universe was moving faster a long time ago, but is moving slower now? I would think that it would mean that the universe has slowed down. I'm sure it hasn't, but it does confuse me. |
