How Fast Do Black Holes Pull Things In?

I am not the most scientific person in the world but I am very knowledgeable. My husband has had this question for a while now and no one can seem to answer it. If a black hole can suck in light and not let it back out than obviously it's vaccuum is faster than the speed of light. So... His question is, How fast does a black hole suck things in?
