I Remember Reading About Speed Of Sound In Water Measurements

in physics textbook long ago. It was done in 18 century by igniting black powder in air and similtaneous ring of a bell underwater. It was found to be about 5 times the speed of sound in air - not precise measurement, but for that time reasonably accurate.
