that perhaps 1 + 0 = 1... is an ideal situation, just as free-fall in a vaccuum, is the ideal situation taught to first year physics students.

In real life we have air friction...

Perhaps also in "real life" (I'm beginning to question what that actualy means), .999999999 = 1 is only an ideal approximation.
