before you start looking for flaws. Alex cleared it up. Here is an example of the equivalence principle where all the local physics is done using SR. From special relativity

E = m/(1-v^2)^1/2 [where m = the mass of an object (in meters {geometric units}) at rest, at infinity in flat spacetime]

v^2 = 2M/r [where M is the mass of a spherically symmetric object in meters]

So for the Schwarzchild geometry we can write the energy equation

Eshell = E/(1-2M/r)^1/2

What will be the measured energy of a laser pulse received at Eshellr2 sent from Eshellr1

Eshellr1(1-2M/r1)^1/2 = E = Eshellr2(1-2M/r2)^1/2

Eshellr2 = [Eshellr1(1-2M/r1)^1/2]/(1-2M/r2)^1/2

Substitute 2M for r1 in 2M/r1 and you get the general relativistic solution for 'nothing, not even light can escape the event horizon'.
