But the theorem was derived by Greene in 2 dimensions. There are a bunch of similar things that suggest that M theory is connected to all the other 10 (and one 9) dimensional string theories as well as super gravity, a point theory.

You know, you cannot make a black hole in 2 dimensions. Not enough concentration of mass. Kip Thorne, i believe, proved this. So 2-D is special. I have always wondered if spiral galaxies (which are approx 2-D)are just an attempt to protect themselves against being eaten by black holes.
