If you must read science fiction then why not try something useful? Write your own you never know what you will turn up.

For the more self indulgent I would like to reccomend Terry Pratchett. His discworld series is very funny. All the more so when you realise you are not meant to take it seriously as is the case with Einsdynamism and etc.
