I was incorrect in stating that centripetal force is the force that pushes an object out of orbit.

Centripetal force is actually the inward force towards the center of a circle that keeps an object from continuing on a straight path, and traps it in a circular orbit.

The inward force for a satellite can be described by the gravity formula. This force would thus be equal to the centripetal force while the satellite remains in orbit.

The math in the last explanation, and the resulting observations, are correct as far as I know.

Sorry about any confusion, Mark Chapman
