It is not constant for all mediums but about the same for our perceptions. All the different waves you mentioned like gamma, x-ray, visible radio, etc. are just names for different frequencies. c = wavelength * frequency Range limitations is attenuation and dissipation effect. the same uniform medium can not create different frequencies (else the medium is nonlinear transfer function - near strong gravity).
