Einstein showed that mass, the resistance of a body to change, and energy, the work done on a body by a force over a given distance, are connected through his famous equation E=m c^2. Where the "^" is used to indicate that the following 2 refers to the square of c. The energy of motion or kinetic energy is the difference between E of the moving body and E0 of the same body at rest, i.e., T = E-E0 = m c^2 - m0 c^2. This equation can be solved for m: m = m0 + T/c^2. So it can be seen that the mass of an object has a rest term and one related to the kinetic energy. Without proving the special theory of relativity, I'll just state that the relation given is m(v) = m0/((1-v^2/c^2)^(1/2)) where I have used "^(1/2)" to indicate the square root of the quantity in parenthesis preceeding it. The expression for m(v) indicates that it approaches infinity as v approaches c.
