I know some of this because I'm working through the text I mentioned.
You might find it fun. I suspect you know much more physics than me.
Everything I've learned (math included) has been self taught over the
last four years.
Lorentz is valid in the strong field because all the local physics is
done with SR. ~ flat spacetime based on being able to choose a spacetime
which is ~ flat (small interval) regardless of curvature.
The GR perspective is the far away observer. Even though the
Schwarzchild metric is for non-spinning spherically symmetric objects it
is still a good ~ for slowly spinning objects such as the Earth and Sun.
This URL will connect you to Prof. Taylor's site which offers the first
two chapters for download and also the first project which is GR and the
GPS. For some reason Prof. Taylor's site isn't loading in so I'll post it later.
If you send me an e-mail I'll show you the HTML. Its easy but time consuming and I can't show you in the forum because it will come up in script.
