Yes, you probably are right, what I mean by theory is mathematical description/explanation of observed facts which predicts other observable facts. Hypothesis also predict but yet to be observed things, and if they happen to agree with the hypothesis it becomes a theory.

So, difference between a guess (= a hypothesis) and a theory is that a theory HAS been tested by new facts (beyond those it originated from), and is in agreement with them, and a hypothesis has NOT yet.
