Gamma rays ARE electromagnetic radiation. Cosmic rays are high energy fermions and leptons. "When something carrying 50 Joules travels through space, I seriously doubt we can be certain what
form of matter or energy it exists in." I seriously doubt You can be certain what form of matter or energy it exists in. If I detect a relativistic proton whose total energy is measured at 50 Joules then I know its rest energy is 938272000 eV and its kinetic energy is
3.121098627x1020 eV - 938272000 eV. You must think the people doing physics and astrophysics are a bunch of dunderheads.
