How can we make something move? The only way is to let something push on it. You might say that we can accellerate it by emitting stuff like a rocket does, but there are gases pushing on the inside of a rocket engine. Light is the fastest stuff that an object can get a boost from. The faster an object goes, the less energy it can get from a light source. If it travels as fast as the light, it can no longer absorb energy from the light. So nothing can travel faster than light.

Note that when light bounces off of a moving object, the frequency of the light moving away will be less than that of the light hitting it.
