The problem stems from the fact that browsers display text in whatever they want unless you tell them otherwise. In most cases this means a proportional font rather than a fixed width font. Times Roman in an example of proportional with characters only as wide as they need to be. Courier is a fixed pitch where each character is the same width.

The solution is to put the PRE tags around the text you want the browser to treat as fixed width. Start your text with "< PRE >" and end it with "< /PRE >" where you want fixed width.

Some browsers may still so different things with the PRE tagged text, but most are setup with Courier.

I edited your post by putting PRE tags around those diagrams. They are very informative.
