No, black holes do not "suck". They work by gravity. Their gravity is so strong, that anything getting too close cannot escape. But other than that, their gravity is like the gravity of anything else. If you could somehow squish the sun down into a black hole of the same mass, then the Earth would continue to orbit the black hole in the same way it orbits the sun...safely.
