: Why do I keep hearing that there is no speed faster than light. How is anyone positive about that. If there is such a speed that is faster, isn't it possible to pass through the horizon of the hole, and come back out without being ripped into pieces? Also, I heard that once you pass through the horizon (supposing that a person did somehow), that death would be inescapable because of singularity, and something about how a person couldn't escape their own future. How can a person's future lie within the black hole, and if it is, could it be the key to time-travel, or maybe a fountaion of youth? just curious.

: What you are probably hearing is that matter cannot travel at the speed of light; this is different from what you have heard. Why? Because, matter requiures infinite energy to travel at that speed. Since infinite energy isn't available, the matter then becomes pure energy at the speed of light, and ceases to be matter. Can anything travel faster than light? Possibly, but we have not detected it yet, probably because the speed of light would be a barrier to a trans-lightspeed object just as it is for normal matter. Now, if you could travel at the speed of light, you could conceivably keep ahead pof the event horizon of a black hole as it rushes up at light speed to meet you; but once it passes you, you would wind up inside just like the photons that you were keeping up with. If you could EXCEED the speed of light, then you could escape - but to exceed that speed now, you would have to become pure energy and then reassemble as something recognizable on the other side, and frankly, this has never been observed. You future does not lie in a black hole, by the way, unless one comes sailing by; and then your future would be mercilessly short.
