A black hole only gobbles stuff up if it is inside the event horizon... assuming that the entire universe isn`t already inside some gigantic black holes even horizon :P, then we are all perfectly safe. To prove the fact that we are NOT inside an event horizon, look at space travel.. If we can travel in any direction away from earth, we know this is not true.... ( If it was, spaceships would always be pulled into a distant point ie the black hole`s singularity)
