first to clarify something, stephen hawking has officially stated that black holes are actually growing, with the more mass they ingest the bigger they get.
with the terms of the gravity and light. light is faster than gravity but in terms of a black hole gravity is stronger than light. if you could actually be at a singularity and shine a flash light up twords the "top" of the black hole than the light would go up but because the gravity is so strong than it would be bent right back.
