WIthin 100 years science will happily take matter from standing still to very close to the speed of light. Curenntly this would be done through anti-matter propulsion, ion engines or solar sails.
In the future who knows what methods will be used for propulsion - probably cold fusion or some new fangled quantum gizzo but more likely a derrivative of a unified field theory for gravitation and electromagnetism.

Travelling at superluminal speed will probably not happen in the next 100 years however. Not for matter anyway. Although of course lots of waves and stuff have been propelled faster than light but that`s OK because they have no causal effects. If nature would ever let us travel faster than light I think we would have to promise not to look at any causal effects or change space time by our actions. Otherwise I don`t think they`d let us board the ship :-)
