: Chris, you should check on that. Remember, dimensions do not necessarily have to be spatial, they can also be temporal. Time is definitely a dimension -- which one it is may be up for debate, but it is a dimension nonetheless.

:I believe time has something to do with the fourth dimension. This is why. If I'm not mistaken as one gets closer to a black hole time becomes slower and slower. If one were to pass a three dimensional object ( a 4 by 4) through a black hole, the front of the wood would be moving through time slower ( but at the same acceleration) as the back of the pole. But the back of the pole could never touch the front of the pole or squish any part of the pole at all because it would slow down at the same rate as the front of the pole. But the back of the pole will still always "seem" be going faster than the front, Becuase the the acceleration moves the 4 by 4 through that peace of space faster. But if one were to look at it from the outside the 4 by 4 would apear to squish. But it must always maintain the same dimensions. Therefore what happends is space must compress, possibly nearer to the hole millions of miles of space may be compressed in to what appears to be no space at all.
