I am currently building a 13" telescope. I may upgrade the mirror to a 15" in the near future. I wanted the rocker box/alttitude bearings to be made as one piece. I wanted strong but lightweight materials. I chose 3/4" Birch plywood. It is 5 or so layers and it is quite strong and lightweight, easy to work with and gives a nice smooth finish when done. IT cost $45 at a local Home Depot for 4' X 8' sheet. I was able to cut out all my pieces needed and have some left over. Try this "plywood", it is great to use.

Dave
