Rest easy. The roughing stroke for the 80 grit is usually way over the side to get the depth deep. This means that you probably have a very hyperboloid surface. Remember that if you are removing so much material/hour then you have a lot more to remove when you have the hollow almost done. With the 120 grit and on, the 1/3rd stroke (that's total length of stroke/diameter of mirror) with 1/3rd overhang (1/6th to each side) needs to be held to more rididly for a max. stroke. You now have most of the material removed to make the hole and now you are going to smooth out that hole and make it spherical. Since you are still decreasing the radius, the center gets the most work done. you sound like you're going fine. Keep at it. |
