Help On Damaged Mirror While Grinding

Hi, new to this forum. Greetings!

Today is a bad day for me, and for my 8" f/6 mirror. While in the stage of fine grinding (15 micron) I damaged the mirror. A piece of glass fell off by the edge, about 1" in radial direction, 2" along the edge, and 1/8" thick. I see no meaning to continue. But I am wondering if I can use the other surface and start from begining. (OUCH!) The blank is quite thick, about 1.4". I just want to know if there are other concerns other than protecing my hands, and maybe how to best protect my hands?

Thanks a lot! -- jc
