hi bob,

i believe that was i was seeing regarding the striping effect was indeed left over residue from a paper towel i was using to clean the surface before testing. i followed new instruction using eh same towel but instead of wiping now i blot. the striping pattern has been replaced with a blotchy pattern of scatterer light and blackness. i have followed your advice about moving on to the next grit long ago so i don't think i am looking at pits. i just need a good way to clean the surface to make sure there aren't any true pits appearing in the false positives.

i am going to so some looking on the web. in the mean time, any ideas how to clean it properly so i don't see these pit masqueraders?

by the way. last i looked it looked sweet under the fouclt tester, but that was some time ago. i'll take a look again tonight.

thanks,
scott
