Can you be more specific,
First off, when you set it up to look at the light were you able to focus on it?
Second, if so then when you were attempting to view stars did you move the focuser completely in and out well looking through the eyepiece because if you did focus on the light there is no reason why you could not focus on a star field other then the focuser was not in the proper position, focusing on a street light a half mile away would (if memory is correct) bring the focuser way out but if you left it there and tried to view stars they would not show because the focuser would be way out of the optical plain and would have to be dialed in for stellar observing.
To focus on something a half mile away and then something stellar requires a whole different focal point, well atleast it does in my 10".
