Hi Dave,

If your main use will be bird watching, forget the reflector and BUY a good spotting scope. The reflector, with few exceptions is just not well suited for the use. One of the exceptions is to go with one of the small Maksutov or Schmidt cassegraine scopes or telephoto lenses. With an appropriate eyepiece/diagonal arrangement, these work very well. Take a look at some of the offerings from Meade, Celestron, Orion etc. for ideas as to what's available. I don't recommend any of these as to what you need but to give you an idea as to what's possible.
