I tend to prefer to use 2" focusers when using a copyscope lens as a telescope. This makes for the best widefield (Field Of View is determined by the aperture stop of the EP) capabilities. I usually set up such lenses for only one EP so a focuser often isn't needed as the focusing can be done by just moving the EP in the holder for the best focus and the lock screw holds the EP in place.
I'd not use the .965 as the FOV will be small. As to the stop in the focuser, you can pop that out with no problems as that was probably there to limit the FOV with the EPs that came with that original scope. The adapter to 1.25" EPs won't give you any more FOV than the original EPs will for the most part due to the small size of the focuser.
Consider that a 6-7mm exit pupil is going to be the lowest power that will use the full lens and anything lower will just not use all of the light coming into the scope as the eye just won't see it all.
