I have done it.

When you take into account the dangers of using the chemicals, the difficulty finding some of them, and the length of time the coating lasts (less than 1 year at best), a good aluminizing job is a far better way to go.

Bottom Line: Don't bother with it. Send the mirror off to get aluminized.
