PVC Tube Gassing

I am new here and new to telescope making. Anyway,
I have an 8 inch F/6 mirror on order and want to build
a scope. I have a heavy piece of 10 inch green PVC
tube, 48 inches long, and want to use that for the
tube. Someone told me that the PVC tube will "gas"
and destroy the coating on the mirror. Is this true?
I will be making a Dobsonian mount BTW. I know the PVC
is heavy but I would like to use it.
