Beginner Needs Help

I am grinding my first mirror, a 8" f/7. I got 6 abrasives with my mirror making kit. Emery 90, Emery 120, Emery 150, Emery 180, Emery 301, Emery 303 and Rouge.

Everything went fine till #180 but now after doing more than 2 hrs with #303, the pits from #180 cannot be smoothed out. What could be wrong ? And anyway how do these emery sizes relate to the #220 , #320 etc etc. I am confused

Please help.
