Once you start polishing porcelain, I'd suspect that you will start getting into problems with the clay grain problems.
The glasses like Zerodur (which are crystaline/glass combinations) work because the two materials are just different phases of the same material and end up having somewhat opposite expansion coefficients of expansion.
Do experiment tho as you just may have something.
