The problem you are having is that WIN2K isn't handling the change in screen display well. Run the program either in a DOS start on the machine (I think that Win2K still allows that) or run in a full screen window (no borders, etc. of the windows).
I haven't upgraded to that version of windoz so I have to just give general comments here. When you start TEX there should be a button on the top which shows 4 red arrows in a box and that should give the full screen for the program.
I might also note that the TEX site also has a version that runs in windoz rather than DOS.
