Mirror Making Help

I am a beginner in mirror making. i am working on a 8" f/6 (maybe f/7). First of all the focal legth seems to be increasing even though i use the 1/3 stroke mirror on top as described in sam brown's 'homebuilt reflector telescopes'.

Second, there is a very different surface on the edge of the mirror very much like a 180 grit size (i am not done with rough grinding with #90 yet). I cannot understand what's wrong.
