| Focuser/stray Light

I've just finished my first attempt at a scope made with a primary I ground and I'm still trying to assess its performance. I bought a focuser which has an aluminum tube which holds the eyepieces. The inside of the focuser tube is polished, not painted black or anything. Should I paint the inside to eliminate stray reflections? Also, instead of a solid tube, I built a "box truss" out of scrap tubing from an old tent. I haven't covered it yet with any black cloth or anything. How badly could this be contributing to what I think is a stray light problem? I've seen plenty of pictures on the net of uncovered truss scopes, and I was wondering how necessary the covering is. Thanks. |
