I kind of followed dave's plans. One change I would suggest is to use a commercial spider. They are cheap and work very well. As for the distance, you should check to make sure what your f-ratio is before cutting any holes in the tube. Another change I made was to use an old focuser. Are you going to make the same focuser or will you be buying one. That would make a big change in the distance.
