Yes, I used the Birch plywood that is pretty popouar among atm's. It's much lighter than the regular stuff yet still has the strength. But, when it's 3/4" thick the weight still adds up.
I used the same design for the cell as found in the Kreige and Berry book, Making a Dobsonian Telescope. The only difference is that I did not use the open steel fram, just attached everything to the tailgate.
