I agree with Bob May who stated your cerium oxide
should have lasted longer, one squirt should do fine!,.
as for rouge, you should "ball mill" this for a couple days at least,that is mix with h20 in a rock tumbler and let it go for days with a few stainless steel ball bearings,this will break it up, i guarantee you'll end up with scratch's if you dont!, cerium oxides fine, look in your local yellow pages for a rock/mineral shop.
rotate the lap 90-degrees,and mirror slightly clockwise after every 180 cycle.
Be sloppy in polishing, with center over center stroke and apply a sloppy zigg zag like stroke to "sphereize", spit on it ,flick cigarette ash's if you smoke , the mirror hates your guts, it will
do everything you DONT want it to do, be precise,
then sloppy,make it think your crazy.
make sure you "press"between polishing spells, good contact is vital!! cannot stress the importance of this!.
