Make The Pitch Lap

I think you need to make a pitch lap and continue polishing. Go with the tool on top using very short strokes (less than 2") and just polish for a couple hours. It will probably take that long to get the lap working properly and give measurable results. But you will get a smoother more complete polish and will be able to determine if the zones are beginning to disappear. You have to remember that the effective magnification of the foucault test is VERY high, and tose surface defects are in reality very small, actually larger than the fine grit you would go back to. All you would probably accomplish is more work. Good luck!! |
