Hi Matt,
While I was working on my design I got a lot of insight understanding illumination percentage by playing with Newt. It's a design program that lets you change parameters and calculate their effect. I found that I had to increase my tube diameter larger than I would have thought,among other things. Anyway,you can get to it from:
