I assume that you have a hole reinforcer that are used for reinforcing punch holes on the mirror? Use some rubbing alcohol to remove it. Lacquer thinner also work on some versions of those things. The aluminum is pretty difficult to destroy with anything less than paint removers. Rubbing is going to be the hardest thing to avoid.
