That's great! Then you need to keep the scope around f/8 or f/6 so he can be comfortable with the size and eyepiece height. There are lots of sources out there for pre made optics at reasonable prices. Check Orion and Sky Instruments. They advertise in S&T, etc, and are also on the web. Definitely go with a dob design. Again, lots of books to get you started. Willmann-Bell has several to choose from, some have already been mentioned here in this forum.
