A 9 point would most likely be adequate for a 10" and maybe even a 12.5", but any bigger would need an 18 pt cell. There are lots of suggestions out there to use as a starting point, but experience is the best teacher. A club I was in many years ago made a 14" from 1" plate and supported it with a 9 pt cell with very good results. We were very happy with the views, but I don't remember ever doing a star test to see how it looked "up close". We were too busy enjoying the scope!!
