Me thinks you are getting hung up on the contrast degradation thing! It's not a big deal, believe me. If you want a wide field large aperature scope with a 1+ degree fov, you're gonna need a bigger diagonal. The 2.14" will give a .5"+ cone of 100% light, but if you use a 27mm panaoptic or other wide field eyepiece the edge brightness will suffer somewhat. Will you notice it right away? Probably not, but if you had a side-by-side comparo with an identical scope with a larger diagonal I think you would see that the edges of the fov would be brighter while the contrast difference would be minimal. Thats why us ATM build multiple scopes, one for planetary and one for wide field!! Half the fun is geting there!! |
