Don't worry about it. Just stone the edge of the ding round so it won't cut you or chip off while grinding and keep going with that last little bit of grinding. Make a tool from some plaster for the lap after you are finished grinding if you desire and don't forget to put some oil or detergent on the mirror before casting the plaster for the lap. This will also be nice in that if you have some serious problems with polishing, you can always grind some more without having to pull your lap off of the tool.
