hey robert, whats the name of the supplier in India? and is this plate glass or borosilicate?
i have been searching for foreign borosilicate suppliers who make discs, sheets,or blocks for quite some time and have had no luck.(other than ohara E-6 too much $$).
My advice for a first scope would be a 6" f/12 primary left spherical, this would be very easy to make and is perfect for planetary observing as you know. 8" f/8 is fine to,guess i just have a preference for planetary work.
