| Refractor Vs Reflector Curve Accuracy

I have it in the back of my head that refractive optics are a little more forgiving than mirrors because there are more surfaces and inaccuracies tend to average out. Is this true or an old wives tale? I once started a Mak project but tired quickly because of the rather strict requirements on the meniscus lens coupled with the steep curve and having no spherometer!!!
