HI RICK,
THERMAL UNITS ARE PASSE. TYPICALLY TO IMPROVE
ACCURACY IN COATING THE TARGET IS PLACED ON A
DOUBLY ROTATING PLANETARY. ON SIMPLER COATINGS
THE TARGET MAY REMAIN STATIONARY AND A 5-10%
VARIATION IN THE THICKNESS IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE
ASSUMING THAT THE THICKNESS IS AROUND 150nm. ON
VERY LARGE MIRRORS I WOULD PLACE THE MIRROR AT AN ANGLE IN RESPECT TO THE E-GUN AND COAT 40nm AT
A TIME AND ROTATE THE MIRROR 120 DEG. 3 TIMES
FOR A MORE EVEN DISTRIBUTION.
IN TALKING TO ZAMBUTO TODAY I FOUND THAT
HE WON'T ACCEPT ENHANCED COATINGS BECAUSE THEY
MAY DEGRADE THE FIGURE OF THE MIRROR. I AGREE
WITH HIM BECAUSE WITH ALL THE CARE HE LAVISHES
ON HIS MIRRORS HE WON'T RISK ANYTHING THAT MAY
COMPROMISE HIS WORK.
AL
