Yes, this is simular to what i would like to cast,the patents ive seen are methods of making lightweight blanks consisting of a faceplate with a rib structure fused to it ,in different shapes and configerations,with or without a backplate.
Check out the U.S. patent office web site,in the search use keyword:"telescope mirror" and this will be the patent title.
